Student Loans

I was interested to learn that our national student loan debt has reached the same level of credit card debt.  However, people like President Obama and his wife's student debts are quite large compared to most, I'd say.  I guess thats the price you pay to go to top notch Ivey League schools like Harvard.  Taking out loans to go to CSUB is a whole different story though.  Right now I have a loan taken out for about $5,000 and I will probably take out another $5,000 by the time I graduate.  So $10,000 is a managable figure considering it is a "good debt" as they say.  It is an investment in my future that is going to be well worth it.  That's less than a new car these days.  As long as the default rate doesn't climb high enough to significantly affect the student loan banking system, I think they are good for our county's economy.  Those with a college education have lower unemployment rates compared to high school graduates; and with unemployment rates at a high right now, I find security in the idea that if I graduate college, I will have a lower probability of ever being out of work.

  1. I agree that CSUB is not as expensive as other universities. And, I dont have a student debt but if I did I will still come to school because how you said its a good investment for out future that is gonna be well worth it.

  2. I must say, your positive outlook is refreshing. I know that many people do see debt as the enemy. I am one of those people. In my eyes, no debt is a good debt. But your blog entry kind of enlightened me to further understand the situation in a good light. Getting a loan could lead to a better future in the long run.

  3. I agree with Marrissa, your positive view on student loans is a breathe of fresh air, because these debts are for a good cause and are paying for the foundation of a better future, so with that being said we have to keep our hopes up that that the economy gets back on its feet so that we are not paying off the debts for 20 years.

  4. I was surprised student loan debt exceeded credit card debt. The more prestigious the school the more expensive it is go there. I find your positive opinion on student loans interesting. Student loans are investments for students' futures and can also be seen in a positive way.
